Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 October 2026
This policy explains what Nomentra for iPhone does with your information, and what this website does. It describes the current version of the app.
At a glance
- Your travel record is stored on your iPhone. There is no online account, and we do not receive your record.
- Nomentra reads photo dates and locations, and your iPhone’s location, only with your permission.
- Exact coordinates are used to work out a place. They are not saved.
- Some information does leave your iPhone. Apple may receive a location to name a place, and Nomentra uses a few other Apple services described below.
- No advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking.
- You can export or delete your record at any time.

What Nomentra keeps on your iPhone
Nomentra builds a day-by-day record of where you have been. The record is kept in the app’s own storage on your iPhone. It includes:
- the days, places, visits and trips Nomentra worked out, with places named by country, region and city;
- for each photo or location event it used: the date and time, the time zone, the kind of source, the place it resolved to, and how reliable that result is;
- for photos and videos, also a reference to the item in your Photos library, its media type and whether it had a location;
- what you enter yourself: confirmations, corrections, Home countries, trackers, reminders and settings;
- a history of changes to the record.
Nomentra does not save exact coordinates, a continuous GPS trail, or its own copies of your photos and videos.
Nomentra has no sign-in and no online account. We do not hold a copy of your record and cannot see it.
Photos
Photo access is optional. If you allow it, Nomentra reads this information about the photos and videos in your library, including shared albums and items synced from a computer:
- the capture date and time, and the time-zone offset recorded in the file;
- the location saved with the item;
- the media type, such as Live Photo, screenshot or screen recording;
- whether you marked it as a Favourite.
Items in your Hidden album are not read. If you choose limited access, Nomentra reads only the items you selected.
Choosing photos to show
To pick which of your photos to show on a trip or country page, Nomentra uses your Favourites and Apple’s image scoring. This runs on your iPhone. Nomentra does not use face recognition.
Showing your photos
Nomentra displays photos from your Photos library and does not save its own copies. If a photo you are viewing is stored in iCloud Photos, iOS may download it from your iCloud account so that it can be shown clearly.
Nomentra does not upload your photos or videos, and does not change or delete anything in your Photos library.
If you hide a photo inside Nomentra, the app keeps a list of those hidden items on your iPhone.
Device location
If you allow location access, iOS tells Nomentra about:
- visits, meaning places where you stay for a while;
- significant location changes, meaning larger movements;
- your location once when you open Nomentra or return to it;
- arrival near a supported border, if you choose Border focused mode and allow Always access with Precise Location.
With While Using the App access, this happens only while Nomentra is open. With Always access, iOS can also deliver visits, significant changes and border arrivals in the background, including when the app is closed.
Nomentra does not run continuous GPS tracking. Short visits and crossings may be missed.
With Precise Location off, Nomentra receives an approximate location. Border checks are unavailable.
From each location event Nomentra keeps the date and time, the time zone, the source, the place it resolved to and the quality of the reading. The coordinate itself is not saved.
You can change or remove location access in iPhone Settings at any time. Removing access stops new collection. It does not delete your saved record.
Coordinates and Apple place lookup
A photo location or a location event begins as a coordinate. Nomentra first works out the country, region, city and time zone with map data built into the app. That step uses no network connection.
When the built-in data cannot settle the place, or to get a more specific place name, Nomentra sends that single coordinate to Apple’s Maps service and receives a place name in return.
- This applies to both photo locations and device locations.
- Lookups for photos may run in the background and may use mobile data.
- Apple receives the coordinate together with ordinary connection information, such as your IP address.
- Nomentra does not send the photo or your travel record with the request.
Once the place is known, the coordinate is discarded. It is not written to your record or to logs.
Apple handles these requests under the Apple Privacy Policy.
Other Apple services
Weather, if you turn it on
Country pages can show weather after you choose Show weather. Nomentra then asks Apple’s weather service for the weather at a fixed reference city for that country. The request uses a public coordinate built into the app, never your own location.
Apple receives that request and ordinary connection information, which shows which country you are looking at. Weather results are cached on your iPhone. Results older than 24 hours are not shown and are removed when the cache is next refreshed.
Nomentra’s own photos of places
Nomentra includes its own catalogue photos of countries and landmarks. These are not your photos. Some are downloaded from Apple’s servers when needed, and Apple receives ordinary connection information for those downloads.
Reminders
Reminders you set are scheduled as notifications on your iPhone. They are not sent through a server.
Links to other sites
Some pages link to outside sources, such as official rule pages and photo credits. These open outside the app, and those sites have their own privacy practices.
What we receive
Nomentra does not send your travel record, photos or location to us. For automatic app data processing, Nomentra uses the Apple services described above. Links and email open only when you choose them.
We receive information only in these cases:
You email us
We receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. If you start the email from Send feedback in the app, the draft includes the app version, build number and iOS version. You can read and edit the draft before sending, and nothing else is attached automatically.
Our mailbox is provided by Google. We use your message only to reply and to fix the problem.
You install a test version through TestFlight
Test versions of Nomentra are distributed through Apple’s TestFlight. For TestFlight builds, Apple automatically shares crash reports and testing information with us, including installation status, session and crash counts, app version, device model and iOS version. We also receive feedback and screenshots you choose to send. If we invited you by email, we have that address. Apple operates TestFlight under its own terms and privacy policy.
We do not sell personal information, show advertising, or track you across other apps and websites.
Diagnostics and analytics
Nomentra has no advertising, and no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. Its own operational diagnostics stay on your iPhone.
For App Store versions, if you have chosen in iPhone Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us crash and performance reports about Nomentra. Apple produces these reports and controls that setting.
Details of a failed scan are kept on your iPhone so the app can explain what happened. They are not sent to us.
Backups
This version of Nomentra has no backup or sync feature of its own, and it does not store your record in iCloud itself.
Your record may be included in an iCloud or computer backup of your iPhone, depending on your backup settings. Manage iCloud Backup in iPhone Settings and computer backups on your computer.
If you lose your iPhone and have no device backup, we cannot recover your record, because we never had it.
Exporting your record
In Nomentra, open Settings, then Privacy & data, then Export your record. Nomentra prepares a readable file containing your places, days, evidence entries, corrections and trackers. Evidence entries include references to photos, not the photos themselves.
The export does not include photos, videos or coordinates.
You choose where the file goes, using the iOS share sheet. Nomentra does not send it anywhere itself. Once you share or save the file, that copy is outside Nomentra’s control.
An export is a copy for you to read. It is not a backup that can be restored into the app.
Deleting your data
In Nomentra, open Settings, then Privacy & data, then Delete all data. After you confirm, Nomentra removes its record and settings from your iPhone, including evidence, places, days, corrections, trackers, reminders, your weather choice and stored weather, the hidden-photo list and prepared export files.
Delete all data does not:
- delete anything from your Photos library;
- remove files you have already exported or shared;
- change the permissions you gave Nomentra in iPhone Settings;
- remove your record from device backups made earlier.
Deleting the app from your iPhone also removes its data from the device.
Because your record exists only on your device and in your own backups, we cannot view, export or delete it for you.
How long data is kept
Your record stays on your iPhone until you delete it. Nomentra does not expire it automatically.
Emails you send us stay in our mailbox until we delete them. You can ask us to delete your messages at any time.
This website
nomentra.app is a small static website. It uses no cookies, no analytics, no advertising, no forms, and no fonts or scripts from other companies.
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you load a page, GitHub receives your IP address and standard request details, and keeps logs for security and operation under the GitHub Privacy Statement. We do not receive those logs.
Changes to this policy
When the app or this policy changes, we will publish the revised policy on this page with a new date.
